- noun interaction or cooperation of two or more agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
- ORIGIN from Greek sunergos 'working together'.
Environment + Business = Environomics
Both independent, inextricably linked. To see them on their own is interesting.
To bring them together just works better.

There is an old Chinese proverb that says, go amongst the people, live with them learn from them, see what is there and build on what they have. The environment is complicated and without understanding, how can we balance our expectations?
The starting point in environomics is good research. We need to know where things are and the value they bring and it is essential to bring together all of our current knowledge to avoid duplication. We need to concentrate on interactions, for example, to define not just where a thing is, but its impact on everything else.
This at first would seem huge and an impossible task. But this can be developed, by considering resources and developing them relatively. For example in the case of water recreation, we need to detail how human activity affects water quality and where sports facilities can bring well-being, in harmony with navigation and ecology.
If you consider a plant, to nurture and provide the essentials for life, it requires good soil, nutrients, water, carbon dioxide and light. To provide environmental elements, at the correct scale, guarantees good growth and potential for the future.
That's why a good environment is good business. The application of environmental principals to commercial projects "adds value". It provides individuals and communities with a higher-quality of life within character and setting and generates a greater financial return from the development.

We are able to examine the opportunities within many different environments, currently concentrating primarily on redevelopment project on the Thames, the basis for detailed design of works examine the potential for integrated development of sites for commercial, environmental and recreational uses. This takes account of the available surveys of river geomorphology, siltation, ecology and river works already approved, together with the Urban Design and Landscape Frameworks. We take instruction, or establish project brief and provide full "to drawings" creative.
Strategic principles are crucial to the successful development of natural resources. Fundamental to developing the Thames in London is that "waterspace should be at the heart of consideration of development along the waterside - the water must be the starting point". This is easily stated, but the innate quality of a site, requires expert analysis and interpretation.
A new and growing part of the consultancy is advicing on farm diversification. This involves exploring new revenues streams within a rural background. This Provides additional sources of income without the problems often caused by intensification.

Environmental Site Assessment.
Appraise the environment, using baseline surveying. Identify important sites. Determine related expectations. Provide quantified planning data and set priorities. Consider matters relating to accessibility, transport, industrial, wildlife, landscape/design, culture, residential and leisure. Analyse and create operational Environmental Impact Assessment compliant systems, which incorporate "Sustainable Growth Priorities".
Specialist Consultation and Discussion Events
Essential to achieving the "human element" to any project requires dialogue. Though necessary, standard consultation during the planning process has its limitations. To promote proper engagement, consultation needs the exchange of ideas and this provides a channel of communication. Uniquely Environomics Consultants has exhibition and meeting space allowing presentations and focus group meetings prior to planning applications
Environmental & Town and Country Planning Briefs
An old saying within the world of computing says "rubbish in, rubbish out". This is also true with regeneration projects. If the fundamental nature of the project is flawed, you can be certain it will be rejected by planning officers. The proposal must be sound and stand alone on key planning indicators. This knowledge and experience forms our core skill base.
Environmental Compliance
Conformity to Statutory Duties including permit, inspection and process recording is essential within these sensitive locations. Environmental legislation is complicated, with both national and local regulations. Due diligence is necessary during implementation and operation.
Project Management
Full concept, design, installation, budgeting and monitoring are all standard provisions within the plan execution. Schedules, targets and monitoring reporting are also factored into management review. We believe that economic are environmental goals and to achieve both, makes greater commercial sense.

Environomics can undertake your ideas, or develop schemes designed and built from our experience. Within our farm diversification programs, we have already demonstrated that our approach has ease of cross-over between commercial types. From industrial process analysis, to river projects, environomics works at all scales.

The River Thames Visitor Centre was an original idea; developed and presented to all the major statutory bodies by Environonics Consultants. Having processed the planning application we designed the structure. We then commissioned marine engineers to install the two piles, pontoon and brow. We then set about installing electricity, drinking water, sewer connection, telephone and internet. All within a sensitive and high profile location in Richmond-upon-Thames. They said it was impossible, visit www.riverthamesvisitorcentre.com.

Within all environmental settings there always policies. Particular to the Thames, these policies are contained in the London Plan, which set a framework for Sustainable Growth Priorities for the Thames in London and their application is essential to its role as a "World Class City. Policy 4C.6 of the London Plan states "the uses of the Blue Ribbon Network and land alongside should be prioritized in favour of those uses that specifically require a waterside location. These uses include water transport, leisure, recreation, wharfs and flood defences". These emerging priorities compliment the local planning guidelines to form a raft of advice and direction.
The protection of the Thames as a natural resource is an essential part of commercial developing this River environment. It provides the surroundings for business, tourism, sport, recreation, leisure, within a sense of space and freedom. Protecting the economics of the Thames is intrinsically linked to utility and amenity which can only be developed through sensitive environmental management and best-practise.
Every environment has its crucial elements and indicators, establishing these and using them to protect, or enhance the location, is the vision, from which Environomics was conceived.
